a note
In June 2020, a movement for justice took place in reaction to the murders of Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, George Floyd, and Ahmad Arbery. All at the hands of anti-Black racism. In reaction — artists, activists, and allies have worked hard to compile resource lists of organizations to support, books and articles to read, podcasts to listen to, films to watch and people to follow on social media. I wanted to keep them in one place so I can easily refer back to them.
As of February 2021, I am including Anti-Racist resources towards Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI) as well in response to the spike in hate crimes. As an Asian American, my heart breaks to see these senseless acts. We must stand together together to keep each other safe from harm.
Learning how to be Anti-Racist as a daily practice is paramount. We have to listen to Black people and we have to talk about our privilege. That means conversations with our non-Black friends, and yes, that includes POC! We need to do the work as allies, accomplices, and co-conspirators.
Putting this together is a start, a small gesture. I hope others who aren’t sure what to do will find this helpful. If I make a mistake or say something out of turn, I am ready to be called out. I’m here to listen, learn (and unlearn), and actively participate in the anti-racism movement with respect.
